THE latest community news from around Aberaeron.

WI

PRESIDENT Eleanor Evans welcomed everyone to the meeting after the summer break.

The first item was the sad news that Jacqui Thomas’s husband, Emlyn, had passed away. The minutes of the last meeting in July were read and agreed.

he tea at Llanerchaeron was good, but was a miserable afternoon weather-wise. Many members turned up for the Llanddewi Brefi treasure hunt, which was enjoyable and there was a lovely tea afterwards.

Karen Wright and Denise Smith were thanked for their hard work arranging the Aberaeron treasure hunt. Eleanor thanked those who helped at the carnival. Members were told that the money raised would be shared between two local charities.

Eleanor read through the newsletter, highlighting items such as the ACWW lunch at the Llanina Arms on 21 October and the computer classes starting in September. The CFWI would like Aberaeron WI to move to the Helig group and a show of hands said there were no strong objections. Llanarth WI have invited the branch to a meeting with fashion accessories for sale on 11 October.

Eleanor read out a report by Sandra Evans who went as Aberaeron’s representative at the annual conference. The NFWI board has asked WIs to decide whether to allow proxy voting at meetings.

Neris had received a phone call from the speaker cancelling her talk, so Liz Owen stepped in and gave a very entertaining talk about her mother and daughter weekend at Denman.

Tea and biscuits were then served by Gloria Davies, Mary Jones and Margaret Morgan. Eleanor provided a logical quiz which certainly tested our little grey cells. Anne Jackson won the competition by being the only one to provide a winter remedy using honey, lemon and cloves, and Eira Evans-Jones won the raffle.

Eleanor reminded members that voting will be taking place for a new committee and asked everyone to think about being willing to serve on the committee.

Next month’s meeting is on Wednesday, 5 October, at 7pm in the British Legion Hall.
