Bowling Club
THE meeting began with members standing in memory of two very loyal players at the club who had passed away, Joan Harbottle and Audrey Rooley.
Richie Williams, president, congratulated the men’s team for winning the second section of the Mongomeryshire county league. The veterans had been unlucky to lose out to Carno in their final game pushing them into second place in their relevant league.
The officers of the club were warmly thanked for their hard work during a busy year.
Dieter Botchett, Britannia Inn, again generously supported the open pairs competition and provided refreshments after league matches.
After many years of representing the club on Montgomeryshire county bowling association, executive committee Brian Whelham has retired and the president thanked him for his commitment.
David Thorpe had also spent many hours working on the grounds and this had saved the club money.
The treasurer John Griffiths reported a healthy financial position with the club having made a light profit even though ticket sales for all the activities at the ground were down. Using less electricity, removing the present telephone and opening for fewer hours were initiatives which had helped the club financially.
The men’s captain, Barrie Fowles, reported on a successful season, helped by a very good team spirit.
The team are now looking forward to moving into Section I of the Montgomeryshire League and staying there. He thanked the drivers for all their help in taking members to matches.
Sue Mount, the ladies captain, explained that offering free taster sessions had been successful and enjoyable. These would be offered again next year. At present there are not sufficient ladies available to join the league.
Brian Whelham gave his final report in the Montgomeryshire county bowling association.
The child protection officer explained that no incidents had taken place during the season. When children are involved in an event, the child protection officer must be in attendance. The CPO is to be known as the safeguarding officer in future.
Richie Williams was elected as new trustee of the club. Robert Brodbelt thanked Richie Williams for all his help with the maintenance of and improvement to the croquet lawn.
Committee members elected for the 2017 season are: president: Richie Williams; ladies’ captain, Sue Mount, men’s captain, Barrie Fowles; ladies’ vice-captain, Val Nordan, men’s vice-captain, Marc Lawton; treasurer, John Griffiths; secretary, Bryn Lloyd; two committee members, George Fleming and Brian Whelham and the new county executive member, Richie Williams.
