Concert
ON Friday, 6 December, the world-famous and prestigious Cantorion Gogledd Cymru, North Wales Male Voice Choir, performed a stirring and memorable concert at the Dragon Theatre.
Songs such as Bring Him Home from Les Miserables featured alongside classic tunes such as Yr Arad Goch, Benedictus, Holy City and The Fields of Athenry.
Also a stirring and evocative rendition of Elvis Presley’s American Trilogy along with a South African song which the choir sang at the Millennium Stadium last August before a Wales rugby match.
The effect from the massed ranks of male voices filled the 180-seat theatre.
Apart from the main choir, soloists, duets and quartets also featured.
The musical director was Aled Edwards and the accompanist was Ruth Lloyd Owen.
The concert was held together seamlessly by the affable master of ceremonies and chair of the choir, Tudur Evans.
His well-rehearsed jokes had the audience in stitches, especially when he poked fun at his fellow members of the choir.
Pretending to lose patience at the speed the choir came back on to the stage, he checked his watch and quipped to the audience, “If there’s a power cut, make sure you get out before this lot or you’ll be stuck in here for hours!”
The encore at the end of the two hour concert after sustained applause from the large and appreciative audience was the great melody Gwahoddiad.
A very enjoyable evening was had by all. The Dragon Theatre hopes to make this concert by Cantorion Gogledd Cymru a regular annual event.
