THE latest community news from Barmouth.

Rotary Club

EVERY week, several different community groups use the Barmouth Oasis Community Group premises at Elephant Works, Barmouth Rd.

These include the Barmouth Elim Chuch, the Y Not Drop-in, The Credit Union, Cruse bereavement counselling, a digital drop-in, Shelter Cymru and others. All these groups favour a different configuration of the furniture and constantly moving some of the heavy sofas can prove quite burdensome.

Learning of this, the Mawddach Rotary Club has made a donation of £300 to BOCG which has gone some way to enabling them to buy lighter furniture.

U3A

THE next monthly meeting will be on Wednesday, 12 October, in the Arts Room at the Dragon Theatre.

Danny Jones is the speaker and he has promised a very interesting and interactive afternoon with jazz as the theme.

If you are retired or semi retired and you want to know more about U3A do come along and join in the fun; you will be made very welcome.

The meeting starts at 2pm and after the talk refreshments will be served.

Bowling club

THE end of September saw the club heading towards the end of another very successful year, a highlight being the completion of the refurbishment of the clubhouse.

This gave a boost to the start of the season, and with a number of new members it was an auspicious beginning to 2016.

Other events in September were the match for the Goat Cup which was won by new member Mick Williams. The captain’s team aginst the chairman’s team competition went to a play off, and on this occasion the chairman’s team was declared winners.

The final match of the season was ‘Wales v England’ – Wales were the winners.

The annual general meeting was held on 1 October, at the club house.

The meeting showed a healthy financial position and a positive growth in membership which augurs well for the future prospects of the club.

The AGM was followed by the annual presentation dinner, at Hendre Coed Restaurant.

On this occasion, the lady players did rather better than the gentlemen players in gaining more of the trophies than their male counterparts. Well done ladies.

The Bowling Green will close on 8 September, and the club looks forward to the re-opening for the 2017 season on 1 April.

Co-op benefit

THE Co-op is creating a new scheme that will benefit customers and communities.

For those signing up, one per cent of the money they spend on selected Co-op brand products will be donated to local causes.

The Dragon Theatre being community owned and operated is to be the first beneficiary.
