Bro Ffestiniog RFC
TONY Coleman presided over the Bro Ffestiniog Rugby Club AGM where he thanked all who contributed to the club on and off the field of play over the past year and wished the teams well for the coming season.
Sion Roberts, on behalf of the club’s CYF section, reported that takings were up on last season and the hope is to carry on the same which would mean more revenue for the club.
Sion Jones then outlined the junior sides and the good season some of them had with the Under 7s winning a cup and the Under 12s losing in a cup final.
He added these players are the future of the club and appealed for more trainers as the club has a total of 135 youngsters registered with the Under 7 and 8, 10s,12s 14s and 16s sides.
Ceris Symonds gave a report on the various grants etc which were available and was thanked by Tony Coleman for her sterling work in that department.
Keith Roberts the club’s treasurer stated that the club had made a small profit thanking all who made sure in keeping the costs down and without them there would not be a team here and ended by appealing for more donors for the coming season.
The officials for the coming season are: president - Tony Coleman; chair - Pennant Williams; vice-chair - Gerallt Rhun; secretary and treasurer - Keith Roberts; team coaches - Edwyn Roberts with Neil Ellis, Paul Jones, Gareth Hughes and Paul Spruke with Eleri Roberts and Leigh Jones involved with the Under 16’s; match secretary - Adrian Roberts; grants officer - Ceris Symonds; press - Tony Crampton.
Football AGM
ANDREW Roberts presided over the Blaenau Amateurs FC’s annual general meeting where it was confirmed that Ceri Roberts will be the side’s manager for the coming season with others also stepping in to help if needed.
The Under 14s side and its manager Ian Roberts were congratulated on winning the Ll?n and Eifionnydd League and two cup finals and that team will this season be playing in the Under 16 league with the same management team and were wished every success.
David Williams presented the club’s balance sheet stating that the club made a small profit over the past year thanks mainly to the weekly tote takings and both he and Andrew Roberts thanked the organisers of the tote and those who supported it, as well as the canteen ladies, for without the monies they all raised the club just could not exist.
The club’s officials for the coming season are: president - Mici Plwm; chairman - David Hughes; secretary - Andrew Roberts; match and the players register secretary - John Campbell; fundraiser - Dewi Prysor; treasurer - David Williams; vice-treasurer and press - Meirion Ellis.
The meeting ended with all the club’s sides being wished the best for the coming season.
Choir
THE Moelwyn Male Choir, conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones and accompanist Wenna Francis Jones, were in concert at Betws y Coed on Friday evening with Gareth Griffiths the compere.
The choir is to donate a sum of £1,000 to the Wales Folk Music Festival, which is to be held in November and the money will go to various event winners and more details will be announced nearer the date.
Donations
THANKS to those who have supported Siop Dan, the local charity shop on High Street, Ceinwen Jones and her volunteers have been able to donate £1,000 to the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool as well as £101.60 to the local RSPCA fund.
Meeting
THE next meeting of the local area social group for Welsh learners and speakers, Siop Siarad, will be held at 1 am on Saturday, 22 September, at the Bridge Café and all learners and fluent Welsh speakers are invited to come along.
Bowling
IN the recent North Wales League A matches there was mixed fortunes for the Blaenau club losing 9-3 at Llanfairpwll where Elwyn, Dylan Vaughan and Stephen Jones were the winners but were 10-2 home winners over relegated Denbigh side with wins for Martin and Dafydd Hughes, Adam Hyde, Aled Owen and Dylan, Stephen, Iwan and R Elwyn Jones.
Stephen Jones wins the top of the club’s averages and represented them in the President’s Qualifier’s event at Craig y Don which he won games to qualify for the last eight of the event which takes place at Benllech this Saturday.

Dog show
A GREAT afternoon was had by dogs and their owners on Sunday, 2 September, at St David’s Church Hall for the dog show and fun day.
The champion of champions was Tilly, who was shown by Caryl Ephraim.
Michelle Simmons’s Zeus was the winner of the under-5s cat competition, while Carol Mair Jones-Westly’s Roger scooped first prize for over-5s.
Thanks were given to Bethan Lloyd of Pawfect Paws dog grooming for judging the dogs, and Kim Lathaen and Caryl Moore for the cats.
A raffle on the day raised £200 for Freshfields Animal Rescue and £240 was raised for St David’s Church.
The organisers are now looking forward to holding a Christmas party in the hall on Sunday, 9 December, at 2pm and a second dog show in 2019.
