Bowls
THE bowling club are the winners of the Gwynedd Cup after defeating the holders Llanrwst on aggregate thanks to wins from Jason Hughes, Adam Hyde, Stephen, Dylan and Gareth Jones. They are home to Penmaenmawr in a league match this Saturday. Previously Stephen Jones and Mike Burgoyne won their games for the Mon and Menai side which took on a Leeds side at Beaumaris.
Football
BLAENAU Amateurs were 7-0 winners against Llanuwchllyn at Cae Clyd in their latest friendly match and their last friendly will be home to Towyn/Bryncrug this Friday with a 7.15pm kick off.
Bloom
ON Sunday at St David’s Church Hall, David Williams, the organiser, presided over the Blaenau in Bloom annual presentation in this, the 15th year of the competition.
The judge for the past 14 years, Eurwyn Roberts, echoed David Williams’ thanks to all who supported the event. There were seven categories. Y Chwarelwr on Church Street won the commercial category, with the Isallt Café and the Ffestiniog Railway Station highly commended. Glenys Lewis from Manod won the large garden prize, with Barbara Heys, Cae Clyd second. Martin Couture, Incline Terrace, won the small garden class; second were Zoe and Josie Keogh of Hafan Deg and the Hafan Deg Community were third. Zoe and Josie won the containers class with Martin Couture second and Glenys Lewis third. In the vegetable-garden class, the winner was Patrick Murphy and second was Helen Roberts of Maes y Plas; joint third were Barbara Heys and Dayfdd Roberts, also of Cae Clyd. The wildlife class winner was Barbara Heys with Glenys Lewis second and Barbara Hope third. Kim Bocatto of Rhiw was awarded the hanging baskets prize with Glenys Lewis second. The overall winner was Glenys Lewis.
Local councillor Annwen Daniels thanked David Williams and Eurwyn Roberts for their efforts in making it such a popular event and all those who had taken part.

Trains
THE train service between here and Llandudno Junction is back and running again after the severe flooding of the Vale of Conwy route A special train is due here on 3 August, having departed from Chester this Saturday.
Commerce
A WELL-attended special meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism was well attended.
After a long discussion about the chamber’s website, which need upgrading and more users, it was agreed that Miles Moulding, Ceri Cunnington and Dyfed Jones Owen would have until September to look into this matter at when the Chamber will be holding its annual meeting.
In the meantime a sub committee from the Chamber is to look at the closed properties on both the High and Church Streets and what can be done to improve their appearances and other relevant issues regarding these empty properties.
Donation
FOLLOWING a recent sponsored walk in the Tanygrisiau area, a fine sum of £20,50 was raised for the Gwynedd and Anglesey Palative Care Unit in memory of the late Glynne Williams of 17 Maenofferen Street.
Retirement
BRIAN Davies of Oakeley Square has retired after 42 years at BT. He is wished a well-earned happy retirement.
Hospice
THE town council is inviting all other town and community councils in the area to send a representative to a meeting to discuss the proposed change of the now-closed physiotherapy clinic at Towyn Road into a four-bed hospice.
The health board has given the building to the community, but they will not pay for running it. A planned public meeting has been postponed. If anyone would like more information on this matter then contact the town council secretary Ann Coxon on 01766 832398.
Centre
A MEETING was held last Thursday to discuss the future of the day centre at the community centre.
Attending was Sandra Jones and two of her colleagues from Gwynedd Council.
This was the second meeting this year after the first in January.
Sandra Jones gave a report on the current situation regarding such day centres in Gwynedd.
She confirmed that this centre is not to close, but it would be moved if a more suitable local site is available.
The daily costs of those attending will stay the same. Cllr Geraint Parry’s question of how much the centre costs the council to keep open was not answered.
The community will be informed with any forthcoming changes.
Council
FOLLOWING a notice of motion by Cllr Eurwyn Jones for the town council to support the campaign for independence for Wales the council will inquire about having a Wales Yes Cymru flag to fly on the flagpole in Diffwys and also to get prices for flags to be put on buildings during the National Eisteddfod.
