Cor Brythoniaid

Cafodd Côr Meibion y Brythoniaid y fraint a’r pleser o fod yn rhan o’r côr mawr unedig a berfformiodd ar gae Stadiwm y Principality cyn y gêm rygbi rhyngwladol rhwng Cymru a’r Ariannin ddydd Sadwrn. Roedd dros 50,000 o bobl yn y stadiwm ar gyfer y gêm a gwefr arbennig i aelodau’r côr oedd cael gorymdeithio i fyny’r twnnel i’r maes gan ddilyn band Bataliwn 1af catrawd y Cymry Brenhinol, ynghyd â ffiwsilwr Llywelyn (sef yr afr o Ben y Gogarth, Llandudno). Y ddau gôr arall i rannu’r llwyfan gyda’r Brythoniaid oedd Côr Godre’r Aran a Chôr Undebol Ar ôl tri. Canwyd oddeutu hanner dwsin o hen ffefrynnau megis Calon Lân, Delilah, Cwm Rhondda, We’ll keep a welcome a Hymn and Arias. Wedi i’r timau ddod i’r maes cafwyd datganiad dros yr uchel seinydd ynglyn â defod y Cofio ac yn ystod y datganiad fe ganodd y corau Keep the home fires burning yn dawel yn y cefndir. Dilynwyd hyn gyda munud o dawelwch er cof am y rhai a gollwyd mewn rhyfeloedd.

THE MOELWYN Choir conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones with accom-panist Wenna Francis Jones was in concert at Betws y Coed on Friday evening with Awel Jones the soloist and Gareth Griffiths the compere.

Band

A SPECIAL concert will be held at the Ganolfan, Porthmadog, this Saturday to celebrate John Glyn Jones’ 25 years as conductor of the Oakeley Silver Band.A guest choir from Cardiff and several former members who played with the band when John Glyn first took over the baton are expected to be present.

Camera Club

DON LANGFORD was the judge for the visit of the Llandudno Club to Blaenau for their annual inter club competition with the hosts winning the print section.The visitors, by winning the projected images, were also overall victors by the closest of margins 485-484.There was a tie for first place in the club’s John W Roberts competition in which a set of four landscape images were submitted.The judge John Rowell placed Rory Trappe and Tom Dodd first, J Powell Jones second with Iona O’Neill, J P Jones and Tom Dodd equal third.The club congratulated two of its members, Carl Senior and Ian O’Neill, on having gained an AWPF award from the Welsh Photographic Federation.

Cymdeithas Bro

THERE was a good attendance at the November meeting of the English Section of Cymdeithas Bro Ffestiniog where the guest speaker Michael Blackburn from Lanfairfechan was introduced by Chris Fosbury.The speaker who is a retired ordnance survey surveyor has lectured before at these meetings on different interesting subjects; this time it was ‘The River Conway and its source to the sea’, illustrated with excellent slides which covered the whole of the Conway Valley land-scapes, history and its wonderful scenery.The speaker was thanked for a most educating lecture. The next meeting will be on 9 February when Neil Evans from Harlech will give a talk on ‘Votes for Women in Wales’.

Siop Siarad

THE NEXT meeting of Siop Siarad, the local social group for Welsh learners, will take place at 11am on Saturday, 26 November, at the Bridge Cafe. All learners and fluent speakers are invited to attend.

Clwb Dwyryd

CYNHALIWYD cyfarfod misol Clwb Dwyryd Rhiw lle bu i Megan Jones ddymuno pen-blwydd hapus i Nansi Lewis ac anfonwyd cofion at Margiad Roberts sydd wedi bod yn symol.Y gwr gwadd oedd Hefin Roberts, Stryd Dorfil, a chafwyd prynhawn difyr iawn yn ei gwmni yn adrodd ei hanes yn dechrau gweithio, ar ôl ymadael â’r ysgol, yn Siop Maypole cyn iddo fod yn baramedic am rai blynyddoedd. Mwynhawyd y sgwrs gan bawb a diolchwyd iddo gan Megan.Yn ystod mis Rhagfyr bydd y clwb yn dathlu gyda Chinio Nadolig ym Mhisgah.

Session

THE GWYNEDD and Môn Public Service Board is organising an informal drop-in session where members of the public will have an opportunity to share their views and thoughts on their local concerns and what they would like to see improved for the future. The Blaenau session will be held at Tan y Graig, Church Street, on Tuesday, 6 December between 2 and 4pm.

The Royal British Legion

FOLLOWING the Remembrance Sunday Service and wreath laying on 13 November at the Memorial Hospital and Rhiw Memorial, the Blaenau Ffestiniog branch and sub branch Sarn Helen, of The Royal British Legion, have thanked members of the legion, comrades, service and ex-service personnel and others who took part.They included Rev David Brownridge, the parade marshal Gary Williams, the standard bearers of the legion, Royal Welch Fusiliers, Royal Navy, the Royal Oakeley Band and their bugler, and the local police force.The Memorial Hospital is a building site, under extensive alterations, and the service wouldn’t have been possible without the full cooperation and considerable rearrangement of building programme by the main contractor Anwyl Construction and site manager Dylan Davies.The legion and the community of Blaenau Ffestiniog have thanked Anwyl Construction for making this year’s Remembrance Service possible.

Rhiw Memorial

LEGION members moved all wreaths and crosses from the Memorial Hospital and laid them at the Rhiw Memorial, on Tuesday to allow Anwyl Construction to carry on with their refurbishment work.
