AT the first meeting of 2019 on 10 January they welcomed some new members to the group, but sadly learnt of the death of one longstanding member, Dickie Jenkins, on Christmas Day.

The group decided that the Christmas card donation money should be given to the three Borth Scouts who are attending the World Scout Jamboree in the USA this year.

The afternoon continued with a new general knowledge quiz devised by Dave and this was followed by a new year’s tea prepared by the committee.

The following Saturday a group of member enjoyed an excellent performance of the pantomime Aladdin at the Arts Centre. The AGM took place on Thursday, 17 January. The president, Ann Newby, who celebrated her 99th birthday on 27 January, was unable to attend. Members of the group who had died during the previous year were remembered.

Following reports from the secretary and treasurer, votes were taken on a number of items including subscriptions which remain unchanged. The committee continues as last year plus Helen and Ann will remain as president and Dave agreed to continue as chairperson.

Members agreed on the destinations for coach trips this year which will be to Llangollen in May, Meirion Mill and Corris in September and the Christmas shopping trip will be to Chester in November. Christmas lunch will again be at Llety Parc.

On 31 January the group welcomed Heather and Isaac from the Aber Food Surplus Project who told of the work they are doing in collecting surplus food from supermarkets in Aberystwyth and distributing it to various charities around Aberystwyth.

Over 300 people a week benefit by receiving food parcels from the project. At the meeting on 14 February the group had been looking forward to a visit from Blue Island Ceramics but due to a misunderstanding it did not take place. They hope to be able to arrange a new date with Zana later in the year.

Instead a few games of bingo were enjoyed by members. The last meeting took place on 28 February when members celebrated St David’s Day with a Welsh tea and a quiz with a Welsh theme.

At the next meeting on 14 March, members are looking forward to chair aerobics with Sarah.
