THE latest community news from Cellan

Village improvement society

GARY chaired the October meeting. Apologies were received from Tony, Jane, Rose and Wendy.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed.

Treasurer Sally presented healthy balances. Despite the problems caused by the closure of Natwest Bank in Lampeter, she is still managing to bank locally. It was agreed to change the electricity provider from SSE to Utilities Warehouse for a trial period.

Secretary Chris reported steady hall bookings including two funeral teas in the previous week. It was decided to add to the terms and conditions of hire, the proviso that, as they are a community hall, occasionally a class or group may be asked to give up their booking so that they can accommodate a funeral tea.

In September they hosted a very successful and informative afternoon, organised by Cellan Church, when Emeritus Prof David Austin gave a Powerpoint presentation on the history of Cellan, its church and the local community. It is hoped that this may lead to the digitisation of a large body of research work and parish records.

Most of the internal and external maintenance jobs have now been completed and a new horse’s head is ready to be collected and installed in the play area.

Richard will continue to manage the community garden and will write a piece about the garden for the website, which is currently being updated. Thanks to Jane for the work she has managed to do on the website so far, whilst coping with the opening of the new bakery in town.

No WI representative was present and no report had been received.

The next committee meeting will be on Thursday, 1 November.

Friday film nights

THE small but dedicated film crew has been showing films in the Millennium Hall for nine years now.

The new season has got off to a great start with Darkest Hour and Finding your Feet. Tony’s marvellous trailer and a new lighting set-up has brought back some of its original ‘pizzazz’ and has definitely added to the film night experience.

Full details of films can be found on the website: www.millenniumhallcellan.co.uk
