FOLLOWING Theatr Felinfach’s successful production of Teilwng yw’r Oen – a rock adaptation of Handel’s Messiah – the production is being taken to London.
The ambitious production was shown in Theatr Felinfach in January of this year.
The show combined three community choirs from various areas of Ceredigion, professional artists and a professional music director along with members of the Ceredigion Music Service.
There were two narrators: Meleri Bronwen, who has recently graduated from the drama, film and television studies degree course at Aberystwyth University; and Ceredigion County Council chief executive Bronwen Morgan.
The show was fronted by two well-known professional soloists: Deiniol Wyn Rees, originally from Carmarthenshire, but who has lived in London until recently; and Non Parry Williams from the girl group Eden.
Rhys Taylor, an Aberystwyth born professional freelance musician, directed the show.
It was intended to stage only three performances in January, but due to the demand for tickets, a fourth show had to be scheduled. In total, nearly 900 people came to see the production.
Due to the high demand, and the interest in the production, Teilwng yw’r Oen is now going on the road to London.
It will be performed at the Welsh Church of Central London on 21 October with the same crew that took part in January.
