Hafod Trust

THE restoration of Mrs Johnes’s Garden in Hafod (the Flower Garden) has been one of the great successes of the Hafod Trust in its partnership with Forestry Commission Wales/Natural Resources Wales.

A good few years ago Mrs Johnes’s garden consisted of its wall and two entrance gates.

However it was full of mature conifers with, through the middle of it, a forestry access road.

Today the garden has been restored to its former glory with the conifers removed, the forestry track re-routed outside the garden, and after much consideration and effort, replanted with the plants that were known to have been planted there by Mrs Johnes.

The garden now is one of the joys of Hafod and many people walking through the designed landscape are enjoying it.

Any garden has to be maintained and the trust is planning at the garden, a weeding and tidying day with a difference.

This will be on Friday, 20 April, from 10am-4pm, when, for the first time, the trust is extending a warm welcome to anyone who would like to go along and help the trust’s gardening team.

Anyone interested needs only to take with them their favourite weeding tools and a sandwich.

Ample tea and coffee will be provided.
