Gardening Club
THE Annual General Meeting was held on Monday, 8 April at Hendre Coed Isaf Holday Park.
The chair Karen Hall welcomed all present and presented apologies from members unable to attend. Minutes of the last AGM were accepted. There were no matters arising.
Prior to her report, the chair informed members that Roy Pitman, previous club secretary and longtime member, had sadly passed away. Thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.
During her five years as club chairman Karen has described the club situation as joyful, big hearted, steady, tricky and this year, optimistic regarding the future of the club, despite a slight reduction in membership. Hopefully more youngsters, those in their 50s, can be encouraged to join.
Highlighting the many very successful events of the past 12 months Karen thanked programme secretary Val Smedley for all her hard work. Thanks also to Sandra Prior as show secretary, for the many hours spent preparing and delivering two very successful shows, ably supported by members of the club.
Members are pleased to have donated £130 to Noah’s Ark, the chosen charity for the past year. This year, the charity will be the ysgol feithrin and members are hoping to do some planting and gardening with the children.
Thanks to club president Guy Lloyd for all his support, secretary, Jane Thompson for guaranteeing the smooth running of the club, treasurer Anthia Owens for maintaining a healthy bank balance and to all committee members.
Guy Lloyd, on behalf of the club, presented outgoing chair Karen with two plants, in appreciation of all her hard work during her five year tenure. The new chair will be Val Smedley and Sheila Jarman a new committee member. Other positions remain as before.
Pam Bowers was the winner of the monthly competitions, having accumulated the most points,
The next event will take place on Monday, 6 May in Dyffryn Church Hall between 2pm and 4pm. There will be plants for sale, tea and cakes and the opportunity to discuss your gardening problems with the knowledgeable members.
Admittance is free.
