A MEETING was held at the Old Library on 4 March where the chairman welcomed Tracey Dawson, from Ardudwy Cycling Club, to the meeting to discuss the latest regarding the plans to have a cycle track provided in King George V playing field.
Mrs Dawson said the cycling club had registered with the Co-op in Barmouth so as to raise funds. She added that a safe cycling campaign is also being held there on 20 April to raise awareness of using a bike safely.
A steering group, made up of members from different organisations, has been established and the next meeting will be held in the band room on 25 March. Mrs Dawson also noted that a track of what they are hoping to install costs around £10,000.
The chairman thanked her for coming to the meeting before the minutes of the meeting held on 4 February were found to be correct.
The clerk reported she had received two tenders: one from Meirion Griffith of Talsarnau to cut the grass around the public footpaths and cemetery; and one from Eifion Roberts of Harlech to cut the grass of the public cemetery only.
It was agreed to accept Mr Griffith’s tender because members felt it would be better if all the work was carried out by one person. It was also agreed to accept the tender of Gareth John Williams to cut the grass on King George V playing field and the football pitch again this year.
The council is looking for a responsible person to carry out the necessary repair work on equipment in both at the King George V and Llyn y Felin parks.
For more information, contact the chairman, Cllr Judith Strevens, on 01766 781696 or 01766 780700.
Cllr Freya Bentham said there was not much to report regarding the Harlech Regenartion Group.
Cllr Elfyn Anwyl reported that he had spoken with Year 9 pupils at Ysgol Ardudwy about creating a youth council.
Cllr Bentham also said the scheme with the broadband system was not going ahead because of the cost.
The council chose to support a planning application for the demolition of an existing garage, erection of a new single-storey extension, installation of roof lights and glazed balustrades to an existing walled area at Tan y Garth, Old Llanfair Road.
The treasurer reported that the following have received financial assistance from the council: Wales Air Ambulance, £250; Old Library committee, £500; and Memorial Hall committee, £500.
The clerk reported that she had received an email from Sian Williams, Meirionnydd community officer, Sports for Life team, Gwynedd Council, asking for permission to use the King George V playing field for a triathlon event. It was agreed to give permission for this.
The council discussed an email from Bethan Rainbird highlighting concern over the planting of a line of trees that look like leylandis between Sibrwd y Môr and Wern y Wylan on Ffordd Uchaf and the erection of a barbed wire fence and planting of what look like willow trees in front of the three benches by Wern y Wylan. She said she had concern that these trees, once grown, will hide views of the Ll?n, Snowdonia and Cardigan Bay – views that so many people enjoy from the benches at this location.
Cllr Bentham said she had filled in a form with the Land Registry to get information as to whether the land in question has been registered and if so, who the owner is. She also said she had spoken with Liz Haynes and that she was going to look into the matter of if there was a registered public footpath on the land.
The clerk reported that she had received a notice of motion from Cllr Martin Hughes asking for the council to support Gwynedd Council’s decision and ask for a People’s Vote.
He also wanted to ask CADW to fly the European flag alongside the Welsh flag at the castle until such a time as a decision has been made regarding the European Union.
Members of the council were of the opinion that it would be better if people supported the motion as individuals, rather than the council as a body.
As a result, it was agreed that Cllr Hughes places the motion on the noticeboard stating how people could support it.
