THE next meeting of Harlech Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, 8 October. The talk will be given by Paul Walton and his topic will be Marians on the Mawddach.
Paul will speak about how an ancient grammar school in the West Midlands came to love the Mawddach estuary by examining this relationship in the ten decisive dates which created and shaped it from 1554 to the present day.
He will introduce the society to some of the fascinating characters who have played a part in this continuing narrative, including controversial monarchs, disruptive artists, enlightened millionaires, educational visionaries, and the thousands of Marians who, since 1963, have discovered the entrancing beauty of the Mawddach and South Snowdonia.
Paul Christopher Walton studied Modern History at Oxford and was a pupil of Robert Evans and Simon Schama and from an early age has been interested in dates. The talk will be held at the Harlech Memorial Hall and will begin at 7:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided. All welcome. Non-members £2 on the door.
