THE intriguing title of the next meeting of the Society next Tuesday, 10 April, is “Drovers’ Roads and Other Stories of Merioneth”.

The speaker, Jean Napier, is a well known local photographer and author.

Jean has lived within the Snowdonia National Park for over 25 years and its magnificent variety of scenery and history is the main inspiration for her work.

Man’s archeological and industrial influence on the landscape is a recurring theme in her exhibitions, films and books and her work has been widely exhibited in the UK and in the USA and Australia.

Her illustrated talk, including a short film, will discuss the drovers of Merioneth, the cattle, goods and other chattels that they delivered to the markets and the routes that they took - journeys which could take several weeks.

She will describe the terrain, the buildings and workings encountered on the way as well as relating stories about some of the local characters.

The meeting takes place in the Neuadd Goffa, the memorial hall, just opposite the castle on Twtil and commences at 7.30pm and all are welcome.

Light refreshments will be served following the talk and the short film will follow.

Please note the date, Tuesday, 10 April (not 11 April as indicated in the members’ meetings schedule).
