Community Council

THE clerk reported that she had received an e-mail from Chris Hulse on behalf of Harlech and Ardudwy Leisure Board asking if it would be possible for the council to pay half of the precept proposal by 10 April.

The clerk had replied stating that the council would be able to pay £9,484.45 which is half of the precept proposal to the Board once half of their precept had been received at the end of April.

The council supported a planning application for the erection of a porch on the front - Gwernan, Harlech (NP5/61/385F)

Objections were raised over an application to change a ground floor shop at 1 Gwyddfor House, High Street, into a one bedroom flat.

The council objected as the applicant is not willing to sign a 106 agreement and members had concern with regard to parking space for the proposed flat.

Tourism Association

THE council received an email from Harlech Tourism Association asking for permission to erect one bench at King George V playing field, Llyn y Felin playing field and Penygraig so as to enable them to create a Story telling Trail so as to guide people through the town during part 2 of the Year of Legends and Year of the Sea that would be held in October.

Also asking if the council could nominate a small group of councillors to sit on a panel with the tourism group so as to choose designs appropriate to their location for the benches and signposting.

Permission was granted for these benches to be erected and also Cllrs Judith Strevens, Martin Hughes and Thomas Mort agreed to be part of the panel.

Sian Roberts reported that she had recieved a letter from Jan Cole objecting to the scheme for three places to be made available for coaches to park in Upper Bron y Graig Car Park.

It was agreed to pass the letter on to Cllr Freya Bentham.

Concern was voiced that the notice board near the Morfa Stores had still not been taken down and that it was now getting to look untidy.

Cllr Huw Jones agreed to deal with the matter and liaise with the owners of Morfa Stores.

It was stated that the seat opposite Lower Bron y Graig Car Park needed attention and Cllr Huw Jones agreed to have a look at it.

Concern was voiced that some school children and still going into the Coleg Tower Block and it was agreed to write to the Environmental Health department, Gwynedd Council and also to contact the Police with regard to this matter.

Concern was voiced that shop workers/owners are parking in the parking bays in the town all day and therefore stopping potential visitors from stopping in the town for a short while.

THE president, Jan Cole, welcomed members and three guest visitors Wendy, Joyce and Dawn, for the evening’s meeting.

It was announced with great sadness the loss of a very dear member Gwenda Jones, whose funeral had taken place the day before, all members joined in with a mark of respect to Gwenda with one minute’s silence.

The evening commenced with the introduction of the guest speaker Maria Hayes, who gave a very interesting talk on the Ospreys and their love story, titled The Seventh Egg.

Maria tells the story through art work using a feather dipped in ink, accompanied by illustration’s on our projector screen.

After various questions asked by the members, and answered with enthusiasm by Maria, a vote of thanks on behalf of everyone was given by Sheila Maxwell.

They continued after refreshments with a business meeting.

Apologies were accepted, thank you cards read out, birthday cards given to our members who were celebrating their birthdays during April.

The County letter was read with lots of interesting days/evenings out to look forward too, commencing with Spring Council 2018 held in Penrhyndeudraeth on 24 April, NFWI AGM 2018 Motorpoint Arena Cardiff 5-6 June for an overnight stay.

An invitation to visit Denman College, which would be subsidised by the federation, for anyone wishing to participate on one of the many courses.

The extremely popular quiz night will be held in the Rugby Club, Dolgellau on 27 April, commencing at 7pm.

Christine gave out information on proposed trips to a garden centre for afternoon tea on 22 May, and possibly an evening on the Jazz Train during August.

A reminder to the members given by Debbie regarding the Craft Club on Thursday, 19 April, held in The Old Library, commencing l.30pm for 2pm.

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month in The Memorial Hall, commencing at 7pm.

They offer friendship, and a warm welcome to all visitors.
