Ramblers
THE Aberaeron to Lampeter walking trail stretches for 20 glorious miles along the Aeron Valley before crossing over towards Lampeter and the Teifi Valley at Abermeurig.
The trail is easily walked in shorter sections by using public transport, so we embarked on the bus to Felinfach for our walk on 24 September, led by Marion.
To pick up the trail we used the footpath over to Llanllyr and followed quiet lanes to Llanerch, where the trail crosses over the disused railway branch to Aberaeron.
From here the way rises steadily to about half a mile from Creuddyn Bridge, close to the source of the Creuddyn stream, then crossing over Silian Common with good views down the Dulas Valley and the hill country over Tregaron and Llanddewi Brefi.
The trail reaches town at St Peter’s Church having meandered down through Upper Forest and across Five Fields (these pastures are now given over to housing) passing the decaying remains of the old oak tree, the former parish boundary hedge and the dry ditch which once carried the water supply to the town from Creuddyn before a more wholesome supply was piped from springs at Olwen.
We had looked forward to our short Wednesday Walk between Llanybydder and Drefach where a local footpath, after many years of scrub undergrowth blocking the path, is being made passable again by clearance and the installation of passenger gates.
Although good progress has been made, a diversion remains in place and so the group decided to walk down the Teifi to Dolaugwyrddon and over to Maestir instead.
We look forward to the completion of the footpath work soon for the wider enjoyment of the community. On 17 September the group congregated at Talley for a short walk led by Megan.
Rotary Club
MEMBERS of Lampeter Rotary Club are inviting the public to an event at University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Lampeter campus next week to highlight one of Rotary International’s ongoing projects.
Water aid to Kenya coincides with an ongoing project by the humanities faculty of the university to assess and measure the effectiveness and sustainability of such aid to the community of Malindi in Kenya.
The event, Water Aid provision and Sustainability in Kenya, in the Old Hall on Monday, 3 October (11am to 7pm), will feature a mix of static exhibitions, photos and videos. There will also be formal presentations from guest speakers, students and Rotary International teams giving an insight into their work.
