THE latest community news from Llanbedr
Community council
THE Community Council was surprised by press reports about the planning permission for the proposed airfield access road. Unfortunately, all that is known is that it relates to an issue raised by one of the landowners regarding the Habitat Regulations assessment. The National Park Authority is working with Gwynedd Council’s YGC consultancy regarding this issue and a full report will be submitted as soon as possible to the Access and Planning Committee of the National Park Authority.
It is understood that the wooden bridge over the Afon Artro at Pentre Gwynfryn will be replaced by the end of March. The work has already gone out to tender.
The Llwybrau Llanbedr Paths subcommittee is progressing with work to establish information boards in and around the village.
There were two planning applications to consider – for improvements at the Victoria Inn and an extension for The Old Bakery. The council supported both applications and was pleased to see significant investment in these businesses which bodes well for the village’s economy.
It was reported that the O2 mast at Talwrn Bach has been switched off. No reason has been given, for this matter of concern, for mobile phone signals. The matter will be raised with Liz Saville Roberts, the MP for Dwyfor-Meirionnydd.
The Snowdonia Aerospace at Llanbedr has recently staged formula one testing on the runway. Students from Ysgol Ardudwy were invited there, and to their surprise a 1982 McLaren Formula 1 car awaited them which was being tested by engineers from Team Mirage and put through its paces on the track. At the wheel was the car’s owner, Steve Hartley, who will be driving in this years historic F1 competition series. A great opportunity for the students. Many thanks to David Young from the center for organising this. Also David Young is very keen to be present at one of the community council meetings in order to give an update on work at the Aerospace.
Next council meeting will be 7 March.
