Community council

THE council has held its annual general meeting this month.

Chairperson and vice-chairperson were a year into their two-year term, therefore no change is made at either position.

It was noted that county councillor Annwen Hughes had successfully fulfilled a full year as chairperson of Gwynedd Council, and that this role has now ended.

They wish her well with her continuing other local council work in the future.

A new gate will be erected on the foot path at the far side (Tyddyn Pandy) of the Playing Field. Many thanks to Richard Workman for his work mowing the playing field grass, enabling the youngsters to train there and play competition matches.

On Friday, 10 May, there was a special opening of the replacement Gwynfryn Footbridge.

Gwynedd Council Issues discussed at the Council included: The wall of the picnic area on Mochras Road has been damaged and fallen stones are present; the need to prevent people from being able to stay overnight on the site was also discussed.

The council will be asking Gwynedd Council to replace and lock the height restricting barrier at the car park entrance. This will also help prevent the build-up of litter and rubbish left by vehicles staying overnight in the area. The problem of Japanese knotweed on one of the village public footpaths was also discussed.

The ‘Clawdd Llanw’ footpath on the bank of the Afon Artro –will also be receiving attention, and work will be carried out to level out the ground. There was no news regarding the proposed new road.

There was no further news regarding the planning application for Moriah Chapel. However, it was decided that the council would enquire with the Planning Department if the proposal to use the Chapel as a base for some off-site outdoor activities in the area had any planning implications.

The clerk has received a complaint from a Llanbedr resident that a recent planning application notice was put in the village notice board in English only. It was noted on the notice that the Welsh language was not included in the first issue, and apologies were given to the complainant. The issue arose as the matter had to be dealt with quickly before a meeting arranged by members of the public about the application was held. It was known the meeting was being arranged as a mainly English language medium meeting. Normally community council notices are bilingual, but in this instance, where it was regarded as a matter of high priority that unambiguous minutes were produced and ready for the public meeting as soon as possible. The clerk wishes to apologise again for this action.
