THE latest community news from Llanbedr
Community council
IT has been another busy month for the council’s Llwybrau Llanbedr/Llanbedr Footpaths group and Cyfeillion Coedlannau Llanbedr.
Llwybrau Llanbedr has installed an information board about local circular walks together with a new bench opposite the Victoria Inn.
The sculpture previously there is being relocated. A new picnic table and an information board have been put in place at Coed Hafod y Bryn. The community council wishes to thank all involved.
There was nothing to report regarding the possibility of having CCTV cameras in the village. This will be carried over for discussion again.
The village’s Remembrance Sunday memorial service at the war memorial was well-attended again this year and started with a march from the Victoria Inn car park by the ATC.
The service was officiated by Dianne Howie from St Peter’s Church.
The names of the fallen were read by David Richards followed by readings by Llanbedr county Cllr Annwen Hughes and ATC Cadet Luke Downey.
The last post was played with emotion by Sargeant Elin Jones. The citation was given by Neil McMaster of the British Legion in English and in Welsh by Kevin Titley, chairman of the community council. The road was closed during the service. Wreaths were laid in memory of the fallen from the two world wars and in memory of Barney Warburton, by his son and by his brother. The council wishes to thank every one for their contribution to make this service memorable.
Cllr Annwen Hughes provided an update on local Gwynedd council activity. Plans for double yellow lines to be painted on the road opposite the junction by Capel Beser in Gwynfryn have been put in motion as there have been several collision near misses there.
Some other matters relevant to Gwynedd council were raised. Leaves need to be cleared from the pavements in some parts of the village.
Water is issuing up though the road tarmac at Rhiw Felin again and a blocked ditch between Coed Aberartro and Tyddyn Bach is causing water to flow on the road. These road drainage problems need attention to prevent dangerous icy road conditions in freezing weather.
The possibility of keeping the public conveniences kept throughout the year was discussed. The costs and practicality of this will be assessed jointly with Gwynedd Council.
Recycling bins and green bins are being left on the forecourt of Avon Stores and complaints have been received that this is unsightly. Please could people put their bins out closer to their own properties.
BT have notified the council of their intent to remove the red kiosk and associated phone line from Llanbedr.
The community council will appeal against this decision because of the lack of mobile phone signal in Llanbedr and the proximity of the defibrillator to the kiosk. There is a real likelihood that the phone will be required for emergency calls. The kiosk is also an iconic landmark in Llanbedr’s built environment. The current footpaths initiative is also very likely to lead to increased usage of the phone.
