Côr Llanwnog Choir
THE choir ended its year with a rehearsal followed by supper in the Unicorn at Caersws on Thursday, 19 July.
Chair, Angela Swindell, looked back on the year and presentations were made to conductor, Graham Marshman and accompanist Barbara Powell.
The choir is taking a break from its regular rehearsal schedule from now until 6 September when it will resume regular rehearsals in Clatter Village Hall at 7.30pm.
However, there are two concerts coming up in August. On the 19th they are taking part in the Gymanfa Ganu in Machynlleth and on the 25tg they are giving a concert in St Gwynog’s Church, Llanwnog, at 7pm as part of the Summer Festival to raise funds for the Restoration and Development of St Gwynog’s Church. There will be extra rehearsals on 16 and 23 August ahead of these concerts.
Rotary Concert in the Park
THE sun shone on a very successful Concert in the Park at Severn Port organized by Llanidloes Rotary Club on the evening of Friday, 13 July.
This annual event is much looked forward to and this year the audience was able to enjoy the stunning sound of the Quindici Choir conducted by Suzanne Edwards in a range of pieces composed by Thomas Tallis, Gerald Finzi and Bob Chilcott.
Interspersed with these choral performances were some very skilled instrumental and singing contributions by students from Llanidloes High School, Rees, Harriet, Soni, and others.
There was an amazing performance of Bach’s Air on the G-String, transcribed for trumpet and trombone.
Another highlight of the evening was the choir’s performance of a piece by the rediscovered Welsh composer, Morfydd Owen, named Hushaby.
The audience was not allowed to be passive and found themselves competing with the choir in rousing renditions of ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’ and ‘We’re all going on a summer holiday’.
The concert was introduced by Rotarian vice-president John Davies, who thanked everybody for attending and reminded the audience of the great range of good causes which the Rotary organisation is able to support as a result of events of this kind.
