Sponsored walk

THIS year’s sponsored walk for the Noah’s Ark Appeal, Children’s Hospital of Wales will take place on Sunday, 19 May, going across the hills from Llanidloes to Llandinam.

All fundraising this year will go towards a much-needed teenage Cystic Fibrosis Unit in part of the Children’s Hospital for Wales.

The wife of chairman Lyn Jones, Maureen, sadly passed away recently and all donations in her memory have already started the fundraising.

Sponsorship forms will be available from Woosnam and Davies Newsagents.

Llanidloes Boys and Girls, who previously did a separate walk for Noah’s Ark, will be joining the main walk this year.

Rotary club

ON Wednesday, 10 April, Micah Stanbridge gave a gripping talk on his sponsored cycle ride around the USA in aid of the Antony Nolan Trust, which saves the lives of people with blood cancer.

The meeting was chaired by president John Selwyn Smith and Charles Cowan gave the vote of thanks.

The Rotary Club held its annual thank you buffet for local businesses which have helped raised funds for good causes through its Easter egg raffles on Wednesday, 24 April. This year, a total of £1,018 was raised, the largest amounts going to Wales Air Ambulance (£274) and to Bodlondeb and Maes-y-Wennol (£252). Other good causes included the Alder Hey Children’s Charity, the Trefeglwys Community Defibrillator Fund, Bronglais Chemo Unit, the Alzheimer’s Society and Llanidloes Dial-a-Ride.

The Rotary Club president, John Selwyn Smith, expressed warm thanks to all the businesses that had taken part and all who had contributed.
