THE latest community news from Llanidloes

Car club

ON Saturday, 21 September, from 3pm until 7pm in the function room, the Llanidloes Car Club will be celebrating 12 years as a successful community car sharing scheme.

It will be a joint celebration with LLES (Llanidloes Energy Solutions Ltd) as they have been working with them over the last two years to acquire an electric car, which they did in June this year.

It is a Renault Zoe, which has a range of 186 miles.

It is much quieter and smoother than similar petrol or diesel models.

So far the average cost of charging it is 5p per mile which compares well with the 12p per mile average of our other two petrol driven cars. About half of the electricity they use is from renewable sources, which helps to lower our CO2 emissions even further.

One of the main benefits for most people who join the car club is that they learn to use a car less, meaning they save money and there are less cars on the road.

The event is open to anyone who is interested in finding out more about how the car club works.

There will be a chance to meet existing members, have a drive in the Renault Zoe and eat some cake.
