Wales after Rome

DR David Stephenson’s classes in medieval Welsh history are to resume.

This term the classes will deal with what at first sight appears to be a very remote era in the story of Wales: the fifth and sixth centuries. This is the period after Britain left the crumbling Roman Empire. It is sometimes called ‘The Age of Arthur’, and one of the themes of the classes will be to examine whether the story of King Arthur and heroic resistance by the Britons against the incoming Anglo-Saxons is simply a myth, or whether it has some basis in fact.

The classes will take place in The Mount Inn on Tuesdays at 7pm to 9pm or Wednesdays at 2pm to 4pm from 8 and 9 October until midDecember.

New members welcome. For further information contact Dr Stephenson on 01686 412099.

Rotary Club

THE Rotary Club of Llanidloes would like to thank all of the marshals that helped them with the Wales Rally GB in the Hafren Forest last weekend.

It was a slow start but picked up momentum on Saturday afternoon with both car parks filling to capacity, which meant it came dangerously close to causing gridlock at times.

Yet with fewer marshals than normal, but more motorbike marshals than before (for which they thank the Yamaha Off-Road Experience and friends) they overcame, making it a memorable experience for all visitors from far and wide.

Othello

OTHELLO by William Shakespeare will be performed at the Function Room on Saturday, 12 October, at 2.30pm.

Treorchy Male Voice Choir

THE choir will perform for the Llanidloes Community Centre Roof appeal fund on Saturday, 12 October, at 7pm at the community centre.
