Wheelchair tennis

LLANIDLOES High School pupil Ben Johnson-Rolfe was talent-spotted while playing wheelchair tennis in Cardiff.

Ben has Cerebral Palsy, which mainly affects his right side, reducing mobility.

He was fast-tracked onto an athletics development programme and his first event was the Sainsbury’s School Games in Manchester where he did very well.

He has grown to love the sport and is training hard to be able to compete at an international level.

He has just been named in the GB squad going to Tokyo to compete in the World Cup later in the year.

Ben said: “I’m very proud to wear the official GB World Cup uniform, and I’m really looking forward to competing in the World Cup event.”

Arwystli Society

ON 13 July, members visited Llwyn madoc farm in Abermule to see a great display of farm machines, and implements and artifacts arranged and exhibited and stored in original barns and sheds.

These had been collected over many years by Derek Humphries and his family, and provide a unique historical record of farming history.

Members were thrilled to see and examine the exhibits, from crafted dairy equipment, seed potato planters and other wonderful machines invented and used on Welsh farms as early as the 18th century.

Members enjoyed a beautiful tea overlooking the lovely garden and Montgomery landscape, and the family were thanked for such a memorable afternoon.

The winning runner was Year 5’s Izak Bailey.
