Gardening Club

LLANIDLOES and District Gardening club members and friends enjoyed a good day out at Hampton Court Castle and Gardens near Leominster on 25 June.

There was a lovely walled garden with flowers and veg interspersed, a maze, woodland pond with a waterfall and parkland, plus a tour around the interior of the castle.

In spite of heavy rain on the journey, the sun came out and it stayed dry.

The members’ annual show exhibiting their garden produce and cookery will be held in the Community Centre on 26 August.

Refreshments and raffle hamper available, doors open 2pm-4pm.

Rotarians

LLANIDLOES Rotarians took on the president’s treasure hunt as part of the new president’s away day on Wednesday night.

Rotarians, wives and dependents split into five teams before driving out of Llanidloes towards the first clue.

President Stephen Meyer had produced a list of 20 clues with much help from his partner Jenny.

The treasure hunt stretched close to 20 miles, and maybe further for some of the teams who headed out towards Y Fan and out past Llyn Clywedog.

After visiting Cwmbiga and Staylittle the teams passed down through Llawr y Glyn before finishing at the Red Lion in Trefeglwys.

There was much discussion and banter between the teams at the end before the club sat and enjoyed a fantastic meal courtesy of Sylvia, the Red Lion landlady.

The club then gathered again on Friday to host their annual Concert in the Park.

Yet again the community turned out in force to support the event ensuring the concert was another success generating over £500 towards Rotary good causes.

Spectators were entertained by the fantastic voices of Tenovus and the musical skills of many young local artists.

The community support returned the following day when Llanidloes Rotary Club raffled two large hampers and a third gift at the town’s carnival.

Kerry and Jason from Newtown were the lucky winners of the first prize with Vicky claiming the second prize and Robert Coates scooping the third prize.

Llanidloes Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who donated on Friday night and everyone who bought a raffle ticket on Saturday totalling over £900 which will go towards a variety of Rotary good causes.

The club’s latest business meeting was attended by Rotary District Governor Beryl Cotton.

Club president Stephen Meyer thanked the club for their recent involvement in the treasure hunt and went on to thank all the Rotarians for their hard work and commitment over the carnival weekend.

Donations were announced for the fantastic Tenovus Choir and both Llanidloes High and Primary schools for their involvement in the very successful Concert in the Park.

A donation was also made towards the Carnival Committee for another great event on the Saturday.

Arrangements were made for the presentation of Dictionaries4Life to all children moving up from Llanidloes, Trefeglwys and Llandinam Primary Schools to Llanidloes High School.

Looking ahead the club discussed the town’s bonfire night in November and approved a proposal by club treasurer Paul Jones for a brand-new Rotary venture in 2018.

District Governor Beryl Cotton addressed the club at the end of the meeting explaining it was lovely to see such a vibrant club doing so much for the local community.
