AT THE first June meeting, some time was spent discussing this year’s two resolutions.

The first one calls for the Government and the NHS to provide appropriate care in hospitals for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

The second calls on all supermarkets to sign a voluntary agreement to avoid food waste and address food poverty by passing surplus food on to local charities. Members then voted whether or not to support the resolutions.

Raffle prizes were won by Margaret Peel, Pam Jennings and Debbie Heath.

As is customary, a group of members provided refreshments for the staff and pupils at the local primary school annual sports day.

A team took part in the annual general knowledge quiz held at Llanrhystud Hall. Although they did not win, they thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

The sun shone when a group of members went on a circular walk around the football ground starting from the bottom of Penybont Hill. They then enjoyed a tasty meal together at Startling Cloud.

Nineteen members received a warm welcome to Hazel Rimmer’s house for the Annual Report of the NFWI AGM, which had been prepared by local delegate, Jennie Ward, of Llanfarian WI. They also enjoyed exploring the garden, and rounded off a relaxing evening with scones topped with strawberries and cream.

Next came a visit to Castell Pigyn, Llanarth, which is part of the National Gardens Scheme.

Members admired the gardens with their winding pathways, herbaceous borders and ponds, before enjoying the delicious tea provided by Wendy Thacker, who with her husband owns the property.

Our June summer visits concluded with a visit to the Butterfly House at Capel Bangor, to see the large and colourful tropical butterflies and the moths and plants.
