Garden club afternoon tea
MACHYNLLETH and District Garden Club is holding an afternoon tea at Y Plas on Thursday, 20 September, at 2.30pm.
Places must be booked in advance, so those interested should contact the chairman, Elise Payne, on 01654 702853 as soon as possible.
Cancer Research
IN their recent report, Alwena Price (treasurer) and Meinir Davies (secretary) were delighted to advise members that, during the week of 5-11 August, thanks to the kindness of the public and commitment of the collectors, the Machynlleth and District Committee of North West Cancer Research raised £1,080 through its annual street and house-to-house collection.
The collectors were: Eluned Besent, Karyl Davies, Meinir Davies, Eryl Evans, Margaret Evans, Alice Hughes, Anwen Hughes, Teleri Humphreys, Catrin Jones, Geraint Jones, Heulwen Jones, Eirlys Pugh, Michael Williams and Margaret Wilson.
Chairman Geraint Jones said: “We want to send our thanks to the public for their wonderful support and warm congratulations to all of our collectors for demonstrating their great commitment to the cause.
“We are really blessed to have such dedicated officers and members to ensure that the facilities at Bangor, Liverpool and Lancaster Universities continue to receive funds for vital research.
“This is made possible through the wonderful support we receive from you all. Diolch yn fawr iawn.”
Geraint went on to send a warm invitation to all to a coffee morning, which will include various stalls and raffle, at the rugby club on Saturday, 6 October, from 10am until noon.
Admission is £2.
“I very much look forward to seeing you all on the day to help raise even more funds for research by the three universities’ dedicated teams,” he added.
Council meeting
FOLLOWING its summer recess, Machynlleth Town Council will be holding its next ordinary monthly meeting at Plas Machynlleth on Monday, 24 September, at 6.30pm.
Formal notice of the meeting, including agenda, will be placed on the council’s notice boards at the front of the town library and in the Plas foyer prior to the meeting.
The public and press are welcome to attend.
Charity night
THERE will be a charity fundraising evening in aid of CMU Ward, Bronglais Hospital, Community Action Machynlleth and District and a defibrillator for Plas Dolguog Hotel on Saturday, 29 September, starting at 7pm.
The duo Hywel and Johnny will be providing the music, while food will also be available.

Volunteers needed
MACHYNLLETH Bowling Club will be the venue for a public meeting on Tuesday, 25 September, between 5pm and 7pm, looking to see if enough volunteers can be attracted to provide a home palliative care service in Machynlleth and the Dyfi Valley.
The meeting has been arranged by Hospice at Home Aberystwyth Volunteers (HAHAV) and Powys Health Board in response to requests from the town and the Dyfi Valley for such a service, following the success of HAHAV in Ceredigion.
The success of the service will depend on the ability to recruit volunteers.

A volunteer co-ordinator will be based at Machynlleth.
Domino AGM
THE Foresters, Heol y Doll, will be the venue for the Dyfi Valley Domino League’s AGM on Tuesday, 25 September, at 7.30pm.

Monthly talk
HUGH Ramsbottam will be the guest speaker at Dyfi U3A’s next monthly meeting at the Machynlleth Bowling Club on Friday, 21 September, at 2pm.
Hugh’s talk is entitled ‘Modern Day Martyr’.
RAF special service
THE congregation of Holy Trinity Church in Corris is sending a warm invitation to all to celebrate 100 years of the RAF and the Battle of Britain at a special church service on Saturday, 22 September, at 10.30am.
Also, all are invited for refreshments after the service.
