Dyfi Darts

THE last round of fixtures having been played in this season’s Dyfi Valley Darts League, three teams were still in the running for a share of the silverware.

Outstanding games, namely, Penrhos v Foresters A, Foresters A v Foresters B, Penrhos v Slaters and Penrhos v current leaders Dwynant hold the key as Dwynant, Penrhos and Forester A battle for top spot and runners-up.

The league has announced that teams have to play their outstanding games by March 15 or no points will be awarded. Table (8 February): Dwynant (66 points), Penrhos (56), Foresters A (50), Bowling Club (46), Slaters (28), Foresters B (15). John Jones led the field for the highest number of 180s (12) and the highest out (170).

Annual meeting

THE annual meeting of Mach Maethlon will take place in St Peter’s Church on Wednesday, 13 March, at 6pm. Join in and share light refreshments.

There is a varied programme to hear what’s happening with Green Isle Growers, Edible Mach and the exciting new project, Pathways to Farming.

Dominoes champions

FORESTERS B are champions 2019 of the Dyfi Valley Dominoes League, they swept away the challenge of their closest challengers to emerge with a six-point advantage over Dovey, following the final round of fixtures.

Final table: Foresters B (107 points), Dovey (101), Bowling Club (97), Skinners B (95), Red Lion (92), Skinners A (82), Wynnstay Llan. (80), Foresters A (74).

U3A DYFI

U3A – university of the third age – will be featuring speakers from their own working group at this month’s meeting on Friday, 15 March, from 2pm to 4pm, at the bowling club. The speakers’ theme will be ‘Creative Writing Potpourri’.

Women’s Day

AS part of International Women’s Day celebrations, on Friday, 8 March, there will be a walk and singing, starting from the town clock at 6pm, to Derwenlas Village Hall. On arrival in the village hall, there will be talks, live music, DJ and dancing from 6pm until 11pm.

Food from the Green Goat Café and bar by the Black Lion Hotel. Admission is £4, unwaged £2.

This is a fundraiser by the Labour Party towards women and equally issues.

Tuesday Club

THE next meeting of Pennal Tuesday Club will be at 2.30pm on 12 March in Canolfan Pennal. The next gathering is for the club’s annual quiz, fronted by the quizmistress Joan Bedford.

April sees zoologist Libby Andrews from Aberdovey talk to the group about otters, and in May Jacky Windsor-Lewis is coming to speak on the History of Perfumes.

Oh, What a Night!

ON Friday, 22 March, at 7.30pm at Y Tabernacl, join multi-award-winning The Jerseys on their third UK theatre tour to celebrate the timeless music of the 100 million album selling Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.

Incredible Falsettos, beautiful a capellas – the authenticity of the harmonies of the 60s and 70s – with a huge repertoire including Sherry, Walk Like A Man, My Eyes Adored You, Grease, Ragdoll, Stay, Let’s Hang On, Big Girls Don’t Cry before finishing off with headline hit Oh What a Night!

Much more than a tribute show – this is a celebration of fantastic music performed by an array of incredible talent; joined on stage by The Jersette Showgirls to add the glitz, and sparkle giving this production a Vegas style atmosphere.

Fresh from a five-year residency in Blackpool – this is a full production show featuring hit after hit, intricate harmonies, full choreographed routines and much more – the complete night out which will have you dancing in the aisles and ‘beggin’ for more!

Fashion show

A VERY successful fashion show took place at St Peter’s Church on Friday, 22 February. The clothes from Lan Llofft boutique were modelled by local ladies (pictured).

Angharad Williams was thanked and presented with flower by the vicar the Rev Miriam Beecroft. Proceeds were towards St Peter’s Church and totalled £676.05.

Planning

UNDER Powys County Council’s scheme of delegation, county planning officers gave approval to two Machynlleth area applications recently: Conversion of public house and residential flat (class A3 and C3 use) to form four residential units (class 3C use), demolition of rear first and second floor lean-to extension and outside WC together with all associated works (resubmission of P/2018/0363, Dyfi Foresters Inn, Heol y Doll; erection of a dwelling and all associated works including demolition of existing garage, workshop and shed, land at Llety Gwyn, Heol Aberystwyth.
