Under the shadow of Mount Kenya, young Maasai Warriors have remarkably formed a cricket team.
It is a journey which gives the warriors the courage to face their elders in the hope of ending FGM.

Mach Maethlon
THE Edible Mach Wednesday volunteer sessions continued on 24 April (2pm to 4pm) when, meeting at the group’s edible picnic table outside Y Plas building, volunteers moved on to keep the Edible Mach sites looking fantastic and full of lovely vegetables, herbs and fruit.
These sessions last two hours, but there’s no commitment to stay until the end.
All welcome from experienced gardeners to complete newbies. Children too, if accompanied by an adult.
Edible Mach Maethlon has received £266.52 from Co-op, the first of two payments they are donating this year as one of their Local Causes.
A big thank you to Co-op for their generosity and support.
RNLI competition
MACHYNLLETH Bowling Club launched the new season when, on 21 April, introduced by Barry Fleming, club president Michael Williams delivered the opening bowl.
There followed the annual RNLI Open Pairs competition, which raises funds for the well-respected Aberdyfi Branch RNLI.
Following an excellent day’s bowling, father and son duo David and Glenn Rowlands will play Gareth Wyn Jones and Charlie Hopkins while Michael Price and Bobby Richards will take on Mark Rowlands and Welsh international Andrew Fleming.
Showcasing youth
SUPPORTED by Machynlleth Music Club, the showcasing youth series continues at the Tabernacle, Heol Penrallt, when the music scholars of Shrewsbury School will display their considerable musical talents on Friday, 9 May, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £10 on the door.
Planning
THE county council’s planning committee met on 2 May and received information applications that had been approved by officers under delegated powers including, at Clynderwen and Cardiganshire Farmers Ltd., Heol Maengwyn, Machynlleth, the demolition of existing commercial building and construction of 11 flats.
Repairs’ surgery POWYS Housing Service is pleased to send a welcome to council tenants who wish to raise any repair issues. The repairs’ event takes place in the Old Shop, Bryn-y-Gôg housing estate, on Thursday, 9 May, from 4pm until 6pm.
Civic AGM
THE Machynlleth and District Civic Society will be holding its annual general meeting 2019/20 at the Tabernacle on Thursday, 16 May, at 7pm.
All members of the society are entitled to attend. A good attendance would be appreciated.
Cambrian Wildwood
COETIR Anian, also known as Cambrian Wildwood, will be holding an open day at Y Plas in Machynlleth on Saturday, 11 May.
Talks will be held from noon and a free guided walk will be on offer. People are welcome to drop in any time between 10am and 5pm.
