Gerddi Bro Ddyfi
JOIN Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens and others at 10am to 4pm on Saturday, 30 November, to help plant hundreds of edible wild hedging plants and fruit and nut trees as part of the 10th anniversary community orchard.
The group will also be doing tree-dressing around the town, and there will be a talk about trees and biodiversity from Dave Anning of the RSPB.
There will be hot food and drinks for planters.
On the same day, in Machynlleth Library between 10am and 12.30pm, there will be a children’s event.

Etifeddiaeth/Heritage
ON Wednesday, 4 December, estate manager David Newnham is the guest speaker at a meeting of Etifeddiaeth Dyffryn Dyfi Heritage Society.
David’s talk is entitled History of Hafod and takes place in the Tabernacle, Heol Penrallt, and starts at noon.
All meetings of the society are open to members (£1) and nonmembers (£3).
The annual membership fee is £7.
Charity fair
THIS year’s annual Christmas charity fair will be held at Y Plas on Saturday, 30 November, from 10.30am until 3pm. Free entry for all.
As well as refreshments, cakes, raffles and tombola, the event will have contributions from various organisation, including RSPB, Quakers, CAMAD, Credu, Tibet Society, Cariad, Oxfam, Advice Mid Wales, Hospital league of Friends, WI, MWRA, Severn Hospice, Snowdonia Animal Sanctuary, Blind Dog Rescue, Prostate Cancer, Save the Children, Zamb and Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens.
Cletwr Christmas show
ON Saturday 30 November, the show is on from 4pm to 6pm. It’s just like a village show - but Christmassy!
Competitions: Gingerbread house (four classes - U6, 6-12, 12-18 and 18+); yule log (four classes - U6, 6-12, 12-18 and 18+); mince pies (four on a plate, one class); Christmas wreath (one class).
It is 50p per entry; deliver and set up between 4pm and 5pm; judging at 5pm.
Mulled wine and hot spicy apple available while waiting for the judges’ decision.
Go along and celebrate the start of the festive season!
Dominoes
THE Foresters, Heol y Doll, Machynlleth will be staging Colin’s Christmas Cracker Dominoes Mixed Pairs competition on Tuesday, 3 December, starting at 7.30pm.
The evening will include a raffle and an auction.
All money raised will go towards Bronglais Hospital chemotherapy unit in Aberystwyth.
The Dyfi Valley Dominoes League’s current top two, Foresters and Skinners, continued their winning ways when, in round four, they both gained 9-4 away victories over Bowling Club and Divas respectively. Completing the round’s results, Wynnstay Llan beat visitors Dovey also with a 9-4 score line.

Royal British Legion
MACHYNLLETH’s British Legion branch held its AGM on 5 November with 17 members present.
After agreeing the minutes of the 2018 AGM, members heard president Ivor Price report on another successful year and pay tribute to branch members for their efforts in the various forms of fundraising, over and above the Poppy Day Appeal.
He thanked officers and members for making the Machynlleth and Distrist branch so successful.
Chair Steve Doyle and secretary Tony Jones were in turn very positive in their respective reports, and with treasurer Iris Doyle assuring all that the branch was well into ‘the black’ it was a relaxed group that adjourned for their tea and cakes.
Branch officers for 2019/20: chairman, Stephen Doyle; vice-chairperson, Sylvia Whittaker; secretary, Anthony Jones; treasurer, Iris Doyle; Standard Bearer, Roger Seagrave.
All members present agreed with the proposals with no opposition.
