Meadows’ Day
THANKS to Gerddi Bro Dyfi Gardens, Machynlleth celebrated National Meadows’ Day on Saturday, 1 July.
Townspeople and visitors alike were able to enjoy an afternoon of events, including Moses the donkey from Ddyfi Donkeys and Tony Corden, who provided the music, or just enjoy the wonderful Plas-based gardens created and maintained by volunteers and organiser Kate Doubleday.
Town Mayor Tony Jones, who opened the event, said: “My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a lovely day. We were very impressed with the gardens and all the arrangements for the day.
“Our congratulations go to Gerddi Bro Dyfi Gardens for recognising the importance of our wildflower meadows.”
Bowls
FINDING favour with the county selectors, Machynlleth bowlers Andrew Fleming, Nigel Fleming, Eryl Jones (res.), Don Lewis, David Rowlands and Mark Rowlands joined the Montgomeryshire CAB squad for the county’s away trip to play the Vale of Glamorgan CBA on Sunday. Former winners Machynlleth crashed out of the county league cup, losing to Newtown over two legs by 157 shots to 131.
Newtown will now play Carno, who eased past Maesydre (Welshpool) 177-126, in the semi-finals.
They also fell at the first hurdle in the Cambrian Rose Bowl by an agonising two shots at Presteigne, after being last season’s proud winners.
In the Montgomeryshire Ladies’ League, Machynlleth ladies (two points) lost by eight shots to Carno ladies (seven points), but retained second spot, 12 points adrift of leaders Berriew.
Crowning
THE Machynlleth and District Carnival Committee has announced that this year’s crowning ceremony will take place at 7pm in the Community Hall, Plas Machynlleth, on Friday, 14 July.
There will also be entertainment by local artists on the night.
Pool
ROUND six in the North Wales Pool Interleague saw Machynlleth A lose their first division match at Wrexham 8 Ball 24-16, keeping them in sixth place on 85 points.
However, in the second division, playing on their home tables in the rugby club, Machynlleth B were too hot for South Flintshire A and won by 22 frames to 18. Boosting their points total to 101, they were only three points off the fourth-placed team.
