Hear to Help

A DROP-IN clinic on Friday, 6 October, at the Care Centre, Forge Road, from 10am to noon offers NHS hearing aid wearers a chance to receive help with cleaning their aids and receive new tubes and free batteries.

Garden Club

THE next meeting of Machynlleth & District Garden Club takes place at the bowling club on Tuesday, 10 October, at 7.30pm. There will be an illustrated talk by Peter Styles on Planting Design.

Edible Mach Maethlon

MEMBERS of the public enjoyed two fantastic days in the bowling club’s clubhouse and kitchen.

On the first day, the Green Goat Café took the attendees through the process of making a traditional Sicilian dish, Arancini. The following day was all about Sri Lankan curry and rice.

MOMA

THIS year’s MOMA William Condry Memorial Lecture is an introduction to and celebration of the pre-eminent writer on nature, Henry David Thoreau.

Jim Perrin examines the influence on nature writing in English of the man Condry called “my friend Thoreau”, whose own work is infused with the presence of Thoreau.

Admission on the door is from 7pm for a 7.45pm start on Friday, 6 October.

Bowls Finals

CELEBRATING an excellent season, including Montgomeryshire County Bowling Association league champions, Machynlleth Bowling Club held their finals’ weekend on 26-27 August.

David Rowlands triumphed in the final of the Barcelona Cup men’s singles to become men’s club champion for the eighth time, overcoming first-time finalist Alwyn Jones 21-14 after a very close game until the last four ends.

Crowned champion for the first time, the ladies’ singles final brought success for Elsbeth McAuley with a 21-12 verdict over former champion Betty Fleming.

Opening the presentation ceremony, MC Barry Fleming welcomed all present and congratulated club captain Thomas Jenkins.

He made special mention of all who’d helped to run the competitions, green keepers, bar staff and all who’d helped in whatever way both on and off Llyn­lloedd green.

He went on to introduce club president Michael Williams who echoed all that Barry had said and, following paying tribute to this season’s successes, went on to present the silverware.
