British Legion AGM
THE AGM was opened by vice-chairman Stephen Doyle on 1 November.
Exhortation was given in Welsh by Eufyl Williams and in English by Anthony Jones.
Chairman Stephen Doyle asked members to remain standing in silence in memory of Philip Jenkins who passed away recently.
The minutes of the 2016 AGM were read, and it was Proposed by Elsbeth McAuley and Seconded by Kath Holt as a true record.
Various reports were given.
The branch officers for 2017/18 are: president, Ivor Price; vice presidents, Kath Holt, and Eufyl Williams; chairman, Stephen Doyle; vice chairman, Sylvia Whittaker; secretary, Anthony Jones; treasurer, Iris Doyle; Poppy Appeal organiser, Stephen Doyle; welfare officer, Stephen Doyle; sick visitor, Elsbeth McAuley and standard bearer, Gwyn Roberts.
New chairman Stephen Doyle remains for another two years.
Cancer Research
AT the AGM of the Machynlleth and District Committee of North West Cancer Research members heard the fantastic news that, thanks to the hard work of fundraisers, £3,700 had been donated to continue ground-breaking research at Bangor, Lancaster and Liverpool Universities.
Opening the meeting, chairman Geraint Jones led members in tribute to Doreen Ellis who, following 30 years of loyal and dedicated service, had passed away.
He also sympathised with Ann Lloyd Jones over the death of her brother-in-law, Glyn Jones, and family.
He went on to say that next year will be a special year as the committee is celebrating its 60th (diamond) anniversary. Members agreed to form a small group to explore possible ways of recognising this impressive goal.
Reports and details of fundraisers were given.
Officers were re-elected.
The date was set for next year’s street/house-to-house collection as 5-11 August and for the annual coffee morning on Saturday, 6 October.
Mach Maethlon
THERE will be a festive fermentation evening in the bowling club on Thursday (9 December), 6pm-8pm.
The group welcomes back Annie Levy to share more of her knowledge and enthusiasm for fermentation, this time with a festive theme. Bring jars.
The session is free. All welcome.
Indoor Bowls
BRO Ddyfi Indoor Bowls Club, although registering wins on two of the four rinks, lost their opening fixture in this season’s Welsh Indoor Bowls Association’s Club Championship (north) on Saturday, 28 November, at Bro Ddyfi Leisure Centre.
Visitors Flint IBC (10 points) won by 87 shots to 60 to take the lion’s share of the points, despite a strong showing by Bro Ddyfi IBC (4 points).
MOMA Market Day Talk
ON Wednesday, 13 December at noon, the MOMA mid-day market talk will feature a talk by Jonathan Adams about America’s greatest-ever architect, Frank Lloyd Wright - the man who built America.

Community Church
THE church is holding a Family Christmas Service at 10.30am on Sunday, 10 December.
This will be an all-age celebration with a selection of favorite carols, readings and special items for children. Free refreshments will be served in the church hall afterwards and a warm welcome is extended to all.
