U3A

CHILLY winds and rain did not prevent 27 members and friends from Newcastle Emlyn U3A from enjoying their August outing to Aberglasney Gardens.

Everyone was suitably dressed for the weather and in the morning they enjoyed a wonderful walk and talk from the head gardener, Joseph Atkin, who was enthusiastic about the garden and gave the group many hints and tips.

Lunch was enjoyed in the garden café and as the weather began to perk up slightly, they then had a talk about the history of the house and gardens.

Everyone agreed it was a fabulous day and that they very much appreciated the time and effort taken by the staff at the gardens, especially in accommodating two wheelchair users.

The next meeting is on Wednesday, 6 September, at the usual venue and the group will be welcoming John Wake, who will give a talk entitled The Cruel Streets of Cardiff 1890-1910.

Meetings usually take place on the first Wednesday of the month at 10.30am at the community hall and usually finish at about 12.15pm.

The U3A is for retired and semi-retired people who want to live, laugh and learn together. Various groups meet during the month including astronomy, strolling, craft, family history, games, wine appreciation and luncheon club.
