Mothers’ Union
MEDWYN Parry gave the Mothers’ Union group at St Anne’s a very interesting and moving talk on Blood Bikes Wales, which is a 100 per cent volunteer group offering an out-of-hours courier service for the NHS for urgent, life-saving items which could otherwise cost hundreds of pounds to transport by taxi.
It is a very new reg charity, having opened in Wales in 2011, and in Aber in 2014.
The Aber group covers Tywyn to Welshpool.
Local businesses are very strongly in support, helping to meet the costs of bikes, tyres, petrol, insurance, riding gear and specialist equipment, but more is always needed.
Blood Bikes Wales now has 16 bikes, all in distinctive livery, and 300 members, of whom 130 are riders.
All riders are highly trained motor-cyclists, including ex-police riders. They are also trained in handling bio material.
The two short films which Medwyn showed, recounting the impact the service had on NHS staff and on patients, had an unexpected emotional impact.
