Strata Florida Abbey
THE chapels and churches of Pontrhydfendigaid, Ystrad Meurig and Swyddffynnon came together at the end of July to worship in the ruins of Strata Florida Abbey, thanks to the cooperation of CADW.
The weather was kind and the service was led by the Rev Aled Lewis, with Manon Jones accompanying on the keyboard.
The address was given by Lyn Ebenezer who spoke passionately of the goodness manifested in the area in acts of kindness and generosity from the time of the monks to the present day, and how such goodness demonstrates the love which God has for his people.
The faithful from the churches and chapels contributed to the service and the singing of the members of Rhydfendigaid Sunday School to the accompaniment of Neli Jones surely brought a smile to the faces of the old monks.
A collection was taken in aid of Wales Air Ambulance (see cheque presentation photos).

Strata Florida Project
A BONT local history talk and hands-on session will take place at Y Beudy, Strata Florida.
There will be a talk in English which will raise the questions: who lived in my house 150 years ago? what jobs did people do? what did my area used to be like?
This will be an introduction to local history and how to find out about the past in your area with Dr Calista Williams, on Thursday, 21 October, at 7pm.
Email [email protected] or phone 01974 831760 for more information.
Half-term wool workshops will also be held at Y Beudy where you will be able to needle-felt a ‘pilgrim’ or Strata Florida inspired picture.
Using Cambrian Mountain wool fibre you will create a wool drawing using the needle felting technique.
The event for families (children aged six and over) will be from 10.30am until noon on Tuesday, 29 October. From 1pm until 4pm - for adults (aged 18 and over). Booking essential.
