Christmas feast
PORTMEIRION has proved to be the perfect setting for a magical Christmas feast.
Welsh cook, food writer and TV presenter Beca Lyne-Pirkis will take her viewers on a festive tour on S4C on Saturday, 16 December, to show how Europeans celebrate Christmas in style.
From Catalonian croquettas to beef ribs, there will be plenty to make your mouth water.
Beca’s festive get-together will bring her series to a close in Portmeirion.
“The village was built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis in an Italianate style.
“Portmeirion, near Penrhyndeudraeth is a magical place and is perfect for my Christmas party,” says Beca, who starred as a contestant on The Great British Bake Off series 4 in 2013.
Resident wine expert, Arwel Owen, will introduce some yuletide tipples that may tempt you to stray from your annual glass of bubbly or mulled wine.
Giving Beca a hand in the kitchen will be party guests from across Europe.
Reuben from Catalonia will prepare a traditional Catalonian meal called Sopa de Galets, a type of broth with pasta and meatballs.
Ann from Italy will cook a traditional lamb dish, Arrosticini; and Elin, from Poland will prepare a Polish beetroot soup.
But, of course, a Christmas party is not a Christmas party without cheese.
Beca will taste various cheeses with Carrie and Patrick Rimes - the owners of Cwmni Cosyn from Tregarth.
They will help Beca decide how British cheeses compare to those from Europe.
Local band Gwibdaith Hen Frân will bring the evening’s festivities to a close with some foot-tapping songs.
Over Christmas, Beca will brave The Great British Bake Off tent once more for a special episode, where a number of contestants from previous series will return to compete again.
Parti ‘Dolig Beca will be broadcast on Saturday, 16 December, 7.30pm on S4C.
