THE next walk is scheduled for 13 October and has been organised by Gwen and Dafydd,

The walk is entitled The Sir Chris Bonington Trail – Pumlumon Fawr from Eisteddfa Gurig.

You would not necessarily consider Pumlumon Fawr as a honeymoon destination, but it was here that Sir Chris Bonington spent the first night of his honeymoon in 1962.

Sir Chris is one of the world’s most accomplished mountaineers and it is wonderful to receive his support for this trail.

The journey to the summit is a short but spectacular hike, passing old mining works and then crossing open moorland to the 2,468ft summit – the highest in the Cambrian Mountains.

The group might even pass the site of a crashed and ghostly looking Second World War bomber.

The walk is due to last approx¬imately three and a half hours and is graded a hard to moderate walk over a distance of five miles, with an ascent of 340m/1,111ft.

The maximum number that can attend this walk is 25, so to reserve your place phone Dafydd on 07748 675798.

AT THE monthly meeting on 19 September, the Exhortation was read in Welsh and English and a silent tribute was observed.

Vice-president Elizabeth Cameron extended a very warm welcome to members and non-members to the floral art demonstration.

Best wishes were extended to the president, Ann Jones, who is at present in hospital. We all wish her a very speedy recovery.

Sympathy was extended to Delyth Jones on the loss of her sister.

The demonstrator for the evening was Nicola, Cascade, Lampeter. She made four beautiful different arrangements and kindly donated all four.

The monthly raffle was given by Rhyswen Jones and was won by Mary Lewis. The vote of thanks was given by Jane Hughes.

Tea hostesses were Delyth Jones, Rhyswen Jones and Bronwen Williams.

The next meeting will be in the memorial hall on 17 October at 7.30pm.
