Clwb Cerdded/Walking Club
THE next walk is scheduled for 4 November, and not 11 November as previously printed in the schedule, and has been organised by Jim Cowie 01974 831 639.
This is the walk about The Legend of Cantre’r Gwaelod between Borth and Ynyslas.
The highlight of this walk will be to see the remains of the submerged forest exposed at low tide on the beaches at Borth and Ynyslas.
Dated at some 4,500-6,000 years old they represent a time when the sea levels were much lower and when the land of Wales stretched well out into what is now Cardigan Bay.
Was this the “Welsh Atlantis”, the legendary sunken kingdom of Cantre’r Gwaelod described in folklore, literature and song?
The reason for the change of dates is because we’ll get the lowest tide in the afternoon when we’ll be able to see the remains of the tree stumps at their best.
The low tides on 11 November are not at a convenient time of the day.
The walk starts from outside Y Talbot at 11.15am and the walk is to last approximately three hours and is graded an Easy walk which covers six miles with an ascent of 150ft/45m.
