Race the train

THE 35th annual Race the Train event held in Tywyn on Saturday, 18 August was a great success.

The weather was reasonably kind for runners and spectators alike.

Although the numbers of entrants was down on the previous year, organisers were pleased to welcome many newcomers and their families, many of whom expressed their enjoyment of races and the day in general with promises to return in the future.

It is believed the reduction in overall numbers was due to many of the regular entrants being unable to train properly, particularly for the main Rotary Challenge race, due to the very hot weather experienced in the preceding weeks.

The Rotary Club of Tywyn would like to express sincere gratitude to all those who have helped, both on the day and throughout the year, to make the staging of this event possible.

Particular thanks is given to the local landowners who give generous permission for the races to be run across their land, other Rotary Clubs from far and wide who support the event with volunteers, the sponsors and, in general, the people of Tywyn and the surrounding area who assisted in a voluntary capacity.

Thanks also to a new organisation, Greener Tywyn, who worked tirelessly during the day sorting the mounds of rubbish produced to enable maximum recycling.

Without all this input, it would not be possible to stage such an event in Tywyn.

Next year’s Race the Train is scheduled for Saturday, 17 August.
