Rotary club
ON 30 January, members were invited to presentations by three students from Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn who were selected by interview to join one of the Outward Bound Trust course (Skills for Life) organized for young people in the Lake District at one of the trust’s activity centres.
The courses are designed for young people to spend up to three weeks learning different social and outdoor skills to gain confidence and develop greater social skills and self-sufficiency.
On arrival at the centre during the summer of 2019, each student was required to join one of a number of mixed groups of 12 to 13 people.
The groups were named after famous mountain explorers and each group was set a series of challenging tasks and activities for each day of their course.
This year’s successful students were William Richards-White, Ffion Freeman and Oliver Maynard who were all invited to give presentations of their adventures to members of the Rotary Club, fellow students, parents and staff.
The students gave excellent presentations of their activities during their three weeks in the Lake District, highlighting individual memorable experiences and personal self-discoveries that they had made.
Rotary club president Graham Clarke thanked each of the students for their presentations and congratulated them on their achievements.
The refreshments for the evening were produced by pupils studying food and catering at Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn under the supervision of Miss Tronet their catering teacher.
