Railway award

TALYLLYN Railway has received two awards in the annual ‘Loo of the Year’ awards.

Entries to the awards are graded into four categories, bronze, silver, gold and platinum. A gold award has been given to Tywyn Wharf station, while the toilets at Abergynolwyn, which celebrated 25 years since they were opened this year, has been awarded the highest level platinum award.

Commenting on the awards, Talyllyn Railway’s general manager Tracey Parkinson said: “Providing first-class facilities is essential in today’s tourism market, and it is therefore an accolade that the Talyllyn Railway has not one, but two award-winning toilets.

“This confirms the commitment to providing the highest standards for the passengers, as borne witness by the comments that are made on forums such as Trip Advisor. However, the railway is continually looking for ways in which to improve.”

The awards will be formally presented at an event in December.

South Meirionnyddd Older People’s Forum

THE members, an attendance in excess of 50, would like to thank public liaisons officer for Griffiths, Mandy Evans, and her colleague Julian Davis, for excellent and very informative presentation of proposed plans for the A487 new Dyfi Bridge project at our last meeting on Wednesday, 26 October.

It was of interest to our members, who asked many and varied questions, with much dissent at some of the proposals, although no blame was attributed to the guest speakers, as they were only implementing the policies of those in power, namely the Welsh Government and the appropriate local authorities.

The secretary of the Forum was requested to write to Ken Skate AM, the minister responsible for the project, with concerns regarding both access and egress on the proposals. It was felt that the north end of project requires a traffic island instead of the proposed junction. The south end caused grave concern, regarding the use of the existing railway bridge.

The chairman thanked the guests for their kind attendance.
