AN AREA of Ynyslas was cordoned off last week after Spitfire rounds were found on the beach.

Following searches for suspected ordnance on Sunday and Monday, 17 and 18 July, coastguards called off their search with nothing found.

However, later on Monday afternoon, police say they were called following the discovery of suspected ordnance.

A police spokesperson said: “Police were made aware of two items, thought initially to be Second World War shells, which were found on the beach near Borth on Monday afternoon.

“It was established that they were Spitfire rounds, which were recovered pending destruction. For a short time, an area was cordoned off.”
