AN INDUSTRIOUS Llyn Peninsula company has raised a staggering amount of money for various good causes this year.
Last weekend, Mickey’s Boat Yard & Beach Café in Abersoch raised £1,489 for Macmillan Cancer Support when they hosted up-and-coming soul reggae band, Georgia & The Vintage Youth.
Although impressive in its own right, the latest four-figure donation tops up Mickey’s fundraising total to £37,000 for 2018.
The unique beachside café and boatyard has held numerous fundraising evenings over the year and supported local RNLI teams, cancer research charities, and the Wales Air Ambulance.
In addition, Mickey’s has also raised money to fund a beach patrol craft to patrol Abersoch bay, manned by volunteers, which was piloted successfully this summer.
Following a successful trail, the restaurant has funding in place to support this joint venture with Gwynedd Council to keep the water safe for the next three years.
Collectively, money for the beach patrol and charity fund-raising has amounted to £36,892.
Speaking after their latest gig, the last of the season, director of Mickey’s, Andrew Donaldson, said: “What an absolutely amazing night with Georgia and The Vintage Youth.
“Their huge talent, vitality and enthusiasm was so infectious and it was brilliant to see you dancing the night away and having such fun at our last music gig of Season 18.”
Andrew was also keen to praise his staff and companies who have also worked selflessly for their community.
“I’d like to thank our beautiful, bubbly hardworking Mickey’s team and generous volunteers who have worked so hard this season to bring you every beachside event we have done which has enabled us to raise so much money for charity this year.
“Ideal Boats of Pwllheli also warrant a mention as a partner fundraiser as they donated a jet ski for our RNLI fundraising weekend and auction in May worth £7,800 and then a further jet ski for the beach patrol. Thank you everyone.”
Mr Donaldson said: “We’re blessed at Mickey’s with a fantastic community of customers and neighbours and our charity event nights have been a real hit, supported by a great team of volunteers who believe in what we do, even the dolphins came to visit last weekend!”
