CONCERNS have been raised over delays in improving a Pwllheli car park’s disabled parking bays.

In 2014, Pwllheli town councillors Eric Roberts and Jonathan Roberts raised their concerns about the size of disabled bays in Penlan car park after receiving complaints that some members of the public were finding it difficult to get out of their car when another vehicle was parked beside them.

Pwllheli councillors urged Gwynedd Council at that point to carry out proper measures to ensure that blue badge holders could park with ease at the car park.

However, Cllr Jonathan Roberts said he was concerned that 18 months had now passed and the improvements had still not been carried out.

He said: “For over 18 months we as a council have asked Gwynedd Council to improve disabled parking spaces in this car park.

“Although we did have a meeting with council officials during the summer last year and many promises were made, nothing has been done so far.

“The issue has been raised many times before. The disabled parking bays in the town just aren’t good enough.

“As I said only last year, the council is currently treating disabled people as second-class citizens in the town.

“I would now like to know if it’s possible for Gwynedd Council to provide us with a timetable which states when we can expect the work to be done.”

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “As part of a review of parking provision in Pwllheli, the council’s parking unit will shortly be consulting with local representatives regarding a number of off-street parking matters in the town including parking provision at Penlan.

“This will include the parking provision for blue badge holders in Penlan car park.”
