A revamped waste service across Ceredigion will help to reduce collection routes being cancelled, according to council chiefs.
Ceredigion County Council has apologised after resident Glyn Ivens complained that a number of waste collections had been missed in Llanfarian, causing litter and refuse problems.
In a letter to the Cambrian News, Mr Ivens said failed collections caused severe problems.
He said: “What happens when the council fails to collect waste? Some residents will do the right thing and take the uncollected bags back in and represent them on the next due date.
“But many, if not most, uncollected bags are just left lying by the roadside."
Mr Ivens added: “The only really acceptable excuse for non-collection of waste can be extreme weather – resource issues just does not cut it.
“Failure to collect waste on time seems potentially enormously damaging to the environment.
“Currently the council appears to be in denial. Complaints are met with bland platitudes, but with no suggestion of any real efforts being made to address or improve matters.”
The council apologised for problems, but said it was expected that there would be improvements when the new service begins.
A spokesperson said: “We are rolling out a new waste collection service across Ceredigion during 2019.
“This will see new vehicles delivering the service which will have a positive impact on reliability and is intending to improve recycling performance and help keep Ceredigion clean."
