DELAYS in the Welsh Government announcing the preferred options to enable the proposed new Dyfi Bridge scheme to move forward are causing “a great deal of concern”.

A Machynlleth councillor is this week calling for “clarity” about the scheme.

The Welsh Government has said it is supportive of calls for a new bridge and has earmarked funding for the potential £24m development.

But Cllr Michael Williams said he was disappointed with the lack of progress - with the Welsh Government still not publishing orders about the proposed preferred route and no announcement on whether the scheme would link up with the current trunk road using roundabouts or with a junction.

It had been expected those orders would be published before Christmas last year, but Cllr Williams said there had been no progress, leading to confusion amongst residents in the area.

He said: “The bridge has been knocked again in the last few days and we’re still awaiting the Welsh Government publishing the orders.

“They promised that the orders would be published in October last year, or at least before Christmas.

“Although we have received assurances the money is there, we still have seen no progress.

“We need clarity and we need to see the orders published about the route and whether we’ll have junctions or roundabouts, as it has to link up at both ends.

“It does cause a great deal of concern for people who want to see the bridge and the route.”
