A COUNCILLOR has labelled new speed limit signs outside an Aberystwyth school “confusing” and “a waste of money”.
New part-time speed limit signs have been erected around the entrance to Ysgol Penweddig, along Llanbadarn Road, which forms part of the A44 trunk road.
But Llanbadarn Fawr councillor Paul James has said that while he is “grateful” for the signs, which were paid for and installed by the Welsh Government, he has questioned the wisdom of their placement.
The signs are double-sided, with one side showing a 20mph limit and the other showing a 30mph limit.
Cllr James said he is not happy with the placement of two sets of the signs in particular.
One of these are two signs at the entrance to the school which, when lit, show a 30mph limit into the school grounds, despite a standard sign just yards ahead showing a 10mph limit.
The other set are on the entrance to a narrow adopted street, Kings Crescent, leading to Cathedral View, which, when illuminated, show a 30mph limit for motorists turning off Llanbadarn Road, and 20mph for those going in the opposite direction.
Cllr James said: “With austerity as it is at the moment, I believe this is a waste of money.
“I am grateful to the Welsh Government for installing them, but they could have gone somewhere better."
