A husband and wife from Harlech have completed the London Marathon to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
Judith and Simon Strevens ran the London Marathon last Sunday in support of Parkinson’s UK.
Forty-two-year-old Simon who is a is a rescuer with Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, a serious neurological condition, in 2017.
On the day Judith and Simon joined Parkinson’s UK’s team of 240 runners aiming to raise £325,000 for the charity’s pioneering research to find better treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s. They completed the iconic marathon event in 6 hours 6 minutes, raising £5,000.
Speaking about their challenge, Judith and Simon said: “Before the race we were quite relaxed, excited, and nervous all rolled into one. The race itself was really tough as we expected, but the crowd were amazing. There was a brilliant party atmosphere.
“We ran every step of the way together and it was a real team effort. Once we’d crossed the finish line it was mostly relief that we didn’t have to run anymore! But we were also so proud of each other. It’s only just sinking in what we have achieved. We’d like to thank everyone for their support during our marathon journey.”
